Napa Valley Spotlight Wineries:
The winery is well known for Mario andretti, the famous Indy 500 racecar driver and craft of their Italian wine making process.
V. Sattui Winery
V. Sattui Winery, typically your second stop, is your picnic lunch spot. After the picnic lunch, you will taste both their Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.
This Oakville Estate winery will offer you 4 wines to taste and give a mini tour of their tasting rooms.
Whitehall Lane Winery
This popular winery will offer 4 great wines to taste, plus a unique behind-the-scenes winemaker's tour.
Shuttle Bus Amenities:
You will not be herded into a big motor-coach on this special tour. Many Napa Wine Tours from San Francisco tend to use larger motor coaches where they might pack in as many as 55 passengers, and as a result cannot go to most wineries or get the best in personal experience. Relax as you ride in a smaller, comfortable shuttle to truly enjoy your experience in Napa Valley. Shuttles are perfect for great wine tours!
Wine Country Picnic Lunch:
Upon entering V. Sattui, you will be greeted with complimentary cheese and food samples in a European-Style Marketplace. Here, you will have the opportunity to shop the gourmet cheese market & deli (meal costs not included) before venturing outside to sit with the rest of your tour group or by yourself on a wooden picnic table and look out into the beautiful vineyards and winery grounds. We highly recommend meeting some new friends on the tour and sharing a bottle of wine during lunch. The special deli provides 200 cheeses, meats, salads, sandwiches, panini & prepared foods.
Ferry Cruise - Perfect way to end the day!
This isn't just any Napa Wine Tour from San Francisco. On this tour, you will take a ferry cruise from Napa Valley back to San Francisco as the sun begins to set. You can go outside or inside the boat during this 50-minute calm boat cruise across the bay back to the Ferry Building. This ferry cruise is key because it completely avoids bad traffic back to San Francisco. From the Ferry/Bay Cruise you will get close to Alcatraz, the Bay Bridge, the city of San Francisco, as well as the Golden Gate Bridge from a short distance away. Thus, during the Ferry/Bay Cruise portion of your wine country tour, it will be at this point, you will know you made the right tour choice.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do the tasting fees work?
A: The prestigious Napa wineries that have been selected have tasting fees, because they pour lots of great quality wines. The tasting fees are optional, meaning you don't have to taste wine at every location. The wine tastings offer great value whether it's including winery tours, a dedicated person just for our group, possibly an exclusive varietal offer, or by offering up to 4 or 5 wine tastes at each winery. More importantly, The Wine Country Tour Shuttle has pre-negotiated that you will get to taste wines in a private setting, and not in the basic public area. Furthermore, at almost all wineries, your tasting fee is waived when you purchase a bottle of wine - this Wine Country Tour Shuttle customer benefit is mostly not offered anymore in Napa or Sonoma. Your tasting fee buys you this wonderful wine country experience and all you have to do is buy one bottle of wine of your choice to get that tasting fee waived. The wine tasting fees are handled uniquely at each stop. You are encouraged to bring cash to pay for wine or the tasting fee, but credit cards may also be used.
Napa Valley Wine Tasting Fees:
Domain Chandon - $10 fee includes 4 different tastes and an additional opportunity to taste premium wines, if time permits.
V. Sattui Winery - $5 includes 5 wine tastes (about 2.5 glasses of wine).
Whitehall Lane- $10 fee includes 4 tastes and a winery tour (about 2 glasses of wine) / WAIVES fee if you purchase wine!
Alternate Winery Fees:
Franciscan Winery - $10 fee includes 4 tastes (about 2 glasses of wine) / WAIVES fee if you purchase wine!
Rutherford Ranch - $10 fee includes 4 different tastes, plus the fee is WAIVED if you purchase wine!
Rutherford Grove - $10 fee includes 5 different tastes, plus the fee is WAIVED if you purchase wine!
Wine tasting fees are subject to change.
Q: How early should I book?
A: Especially in the summer and on holidays, we highly recommend booking early because this shuttle tour tends to sell out fast.
Q: Do I need to be 21 years or older to go on the tour?
A: No. Persons under 21 may take the tour. However to taste wine participants must be 21 years old. You cannot taste with an adult or guardian if you are not 21 years or older. You can still go on the tour, and even into the wineries, but they will check I.D. Be sure to bring your I.D. (drivers license, passport, etc)!
Q: How were these itinerary wineries selected?
A: You will journey into the heart of Napa Valley to see the famous Silverado Trail, as well as the popular Rutherford and Oak Knoll regions of Napa. You will visit both large and boutique wineries, that serve a variety of wine types. Your guide has chosen wineries that have both great wine and beautiful locations! Wineries were not selected just because they are close to San Francisco, as some other tours do. Finally, V. Sattui is simply a perfect place for a picnic lunch!
Q: How does the picnic lunch work?
A: The Napa Valley picnic lunch is at V. Sattui Winery. First you will taste five of their varietal wines (for a fee). After you taste their wines, typically guests will buy a bottle of wine to enjoy with lunch. Then, head over to the gourmet deli area as well as the olive and cheese bars to make your lunch selections. The V.Sattui deli is second-to-none in Napa Valley - it is a huge local favorite. This is good because you get to eat what you want rather than having your guide decide for you. The winery grounds have many picnic tables, both in the sunshine and under beautiful shaded trees.
Q: Are winery stops subject to change?
A: Yes, this is sometimes necessary. When winery stops are changed, your guide always attempts to change with one that is comparable in quality and wine grape varietals.
Q: How about the competition with other wine country tours?
A: When you check out other wine country tours, ask yourself these questions:
1) Do they take you on a ferry/bay cruise as part of the tour?
2) What wineries do they go to? Are they telling me what wineries they're taking me to?
3) Why did they select those wineries?
4) Do they offer really expert tour guides?
5) Are they adding or forcing Muir Woods into an already long day?
6) Are the wines good at the wineries they're visiting?
7) Does their tour offer a wine country picnic lunch opportunity?
8) Do you get to select what you want to eat?
9) Are they visiting these wineries only because they're close to San Francisco?
On the Napa Valley Wine Country Tour by Shuttle Bus & Ferry from San Francisco, you will be taken to wineries that are in the heart of Napa Valley, because they offer excellent wines in a great memorable, picturesque location.
"Some friends and I recently took the Napa Wine tour and had a great time. The wineries that we visited were diverse in their sizes, and specialties, thus we feel that we got a good understanding of many different facets of the region and the wines produced in the area. Most of the folks in our group had never been to that area of the country and we all thought that the ride from San Francisco to Napa and the return ferry ride were scenic. We also had a very friendly and conversant guide (Kit) who gave us the background of the history of the region, the wine making process, the best way to purchase and travel with wine (which is very important if you're traveling home by plane) and the colorful cast of characters that made the area what it is today. Our tour and tour guide exceeded our expectations and have definitely motivated us to travel back to this part of the country in the near future."
- Brian from Louisiana
"My wife and I booked this wine country shuttle experience and could not stop raving about it during the tour. We loved the wineries, the guide, the picnic lunch and the ferry concept. Way to go!"
